Country Clearance Cables
The NOAA Research
Office of International Activities (IA) prepares country clearance
cables for NOAA Research personnel traveling abroad. Due to heightened
security concerns, by federal law all US government employees traveling
overseas on official business must obtain a country clearance from
the US Embassy or Consulate in the country they are traveling to prior
to departure.
Our Role: IA
formats all necessary travel information provided by NOAA labs and
program offices (who is traveling, when, where and why, etc.) into
a country clearance cable which is then sent to the Department of State
for processing and for approval (or denial). The role of IA is simply
to provide a support service for NOAA Research on this requirement,
but we do not have the authority to grant (or deny) country
clearance requests. The final approval must come from the US
Embassy or Consulate.
All requests should be
faxed to IA four weeks in advance.
